Sleep: My Blog for Composition

  • Apr. 7th, 2009 at 11:22 PM

Apparently, sleep is a thing of the past for young adults. They're too busy staying up with their video games and television shows to actually notice that they have a nice, comfortable bed to sleep on. Then, when they attend school the next day, they’re unable to pay attention and their grades suffer, but that’s not the end of this story. Some of them go on to get good grades, live amazing lives, and then end up with a health problem that can be traced back to their wild sleeping pattern as a teen. Doesn’t that just kill, literally?

According to those experts out there, it does. Lack of sleep can lead to heart problems, diabetes, it can harm your metabolic system and that’s not even the half of it. Lack of sleep can be the death of some people, but, ironically enough, so can an excessive amount of sleep. Isn’t that the biggest contradiction since sleep is supposed to be one of the best things for our bodies?

So it seems that the youth of our world happens to be in grave danger. Never fear! There is a way to combat such a problem, so sit back and relax while I explain in simple terms what the expects have accumulated in their countless hours of research.

So, here it is: get the estimated hours of sleep needed for your age group, eat good, and go to bed at a decent hour.

That was simple enough, don’t you think?

To make it even easier, and so that I seem like someone you would trust, here are the facts in black and white for your reading pleasure.

For beginners, About Kids Health laid out a range of sleep hours for different age groups, and it looks like this: “1 to 3 years: 12 to 14 hours” and “12 to 18 years: 8.5 to 9.5” (par. 13). That’s not too horrible, is it? Moving on, About Kids Health also mentioned “there is growing evidence that short sleep duration results in metabolic changes that may contribute to the development of obesity, insulin resistance, diabetes, and cardiovascular (doctor talk for heart) disease”.

So far so good, yes?

For our wonderful teenagers, this is where you come in, mentioned by Victoria Stagg Elliot in her article, “sleep experts have long been sounding the alarm about the many adults who are chronically sleep-deprived. The problem now appears to have trickled down to the under-18 set”.

Only one more piece of information to go, so are you ready for it? Good, because here it is, straight from the National Sleep Foundation: “the group of people who slept shorter amounts and those who slept longer than eight hours had an average mortality risk that was greater, but the risk was higher for longer sleepers”.

And there you go folks. All you ever really needed to know about the dangers of sleep in exactly a page. It opened my eyes to a lot of things, and I hope that it does the same for you.

So, take care, and get some sleep… but not too much, you hear?

Change The World

Change The World

He wanted to make a difference. He wanted the world to see that he was of use. That, contrary to the beliefs of his father, he was not just a waste of air and space. He wanted to dream. Dream of days filled with people that cared about him. People who would talk to him and laugh with him. He wanted a life.

He wanted to be a man. He wanted to grow up early and leave his painful childhood behind. He wanted people to notice him, and notice him now. He wanted change.

So, Severus took his life into his own hands. He chose his friends. He chose an area of his life to devote everything to, and that just happened to be Potions. He chose to listen to Lucius ramble on about the Dark Lord and the Death Eaters.

In the end, he chose to join their ranks. Bowed before the Dark Lord, pain and excitement coursing through his body, he claimed he would change the world. He would work, and study, and spy. He would, indeed, become Dumbledore's man.

Fallen (poem)

  • Aug. 7th, 2007 at 2:43 AM

And they have fallen

one by one

covering the ground

like the fresh-falling snow

the light in their eyes snuffed out

just like the beat of their hearts

and the echo of their words.

Night has fallen

forever to reign

feeding on the chaos

ruled by one name

The Dark Lord has risen.

The Light is no more

gone, like the snow,

their purity fading away

from the cold, hard earth

the boy is dead

never to live

Potter has fallen

and the Dark Order cheers.

Marks cover the sky,

burning the earth,

searing into hearts,

and causing blood-stained words.

Darkness is the new Light.

Anyways, this is a list of kick ass sites or stories. -smiles- But before the list, things that have happened to me recently. I am now a Gilmore Girls obsessive freak! I have quickly fallen in love with Luke (of course). Get Backers is my new anime and my new manga is Fruit Baskets. Hm... I have started a Chrono fic and I am also working very hard on a GG fic of Luke/Lorelai.

Naruto Drabbles!

Implied Kakashi/Sasuke

Ai shiteru

I love you. Three simple little words. So how come they are so hard to say? Kakashi honestly didn't know. He truly felt comfortable around Sasuke, but the words would not come. So, the Jounin worked even harder to show Sasuke how he felt. Every time he held or kissed him...he was silently telling the boy that he loved him. Eventually, Sasuke returned the sentiments...and Kakashi said softly into his ear, "Ai shiteru."

The Whisper of Demons

A whisper of evil gripped his soul, holding on with sharp teeth of vengeance. The cry of the fox echoed within him, calling for freedom. He tried to hold onto his humanity, he really did, but his anger got the best of him. Unknown to Naruto, this was only the first of many times that Kyuubi's strength would bleed through and mix with his own. The Genin ninja was powerless to stop the kitsune from leeking out when his emotions rose too high.

Even though he knew that the kitsune was within himself...Naruto didn't know how much of a threat is still posed to the people of Konohagakure. The only thing the ninja was aware of in such moments where the whisper of demons within himself and then...nothing.

Naruto could only invision his rise to Hokage, as though it were merely a dream. No one could believe that such a nuisance would overcome them all. Sasuke's dream of revenge and Sakura's dream of acknowledgement, such petty things in his eyes. Kyuubi wanted power, and that was what Naruto would give him.

Fear wasn't exactly a bad thing. Sometimes you just had to fear something to get ahead. Even the strong Sasuke had fears. Kakashi and Lord Hokage had fears. Naruto even had his own fears, but they were very different. Naruto feared himself, and the demon trapped within...the greatest fear of all.

Naruto didn't want to be alone. Now that he had the presence of friends, he would do anything to save them. No matter who came against him, he would prevail. So when Orochimaru stole Sasuke away, Naruto promised himself that he would save him. Because as much as he hated being alone, he didn't want Sasuke to be lonely either.
